Hi, I’m Iain Gray. Welcome to TenMoreClients.com!
I help people who sell their expertise for a living (like coaches, consultants and trainers) to build a profitable, enjoyable business by attracting more of their ideal clients.
Typically the people I work with have been around for at least 6 months (long enough to get over the “Aaaaaaaah! I’m self employed. I have to do everything. Panic!!!” stage), and they’ve already got a few happy clients.
It’s when they try to grow beyond that initial burst that the trouble starts.
Do any of the following sound familiar?
- You know you need to market your business, and you’re ok with that. But you want to do it in a way that isn’t pass-the-sickbag obnoxious or give-me-the-Valium dull.
- Before you left corporate world to set out on your own, you had a Job Title. It was probably printed in bold on your business card. That Job Title, for better or worse, told you (and others) where you stood in the world. Now you don’t really have one. What now?
- You’ve already got a some idea of what you’re supposed to be doing to get more clients. Like, um…. getting speaking gigs. Or social networking. Or good old-fashioned-getting-referrals. However your attempts to keep at it consistently are about as successful as your record on New Year’s resolutions.
- Talking of social networking…. yes, you get that it’s the New Black when it comes to building your business. But between Twitter, Blogging, Facebook. LinkedIn, and the gazillion other things, you could spend your whole day just filling in the profile pages. Where are you supposed to start?
- You don’t know how you’re supposed to fit all this marketing stuff in around the work you get paid for. Which means you only do it when things are looking a little thing. Can you say “panic marketing?” Now say “voluntary surgery.” They’re about as appealing as one another.
- Your business has one major limitation: you. When you’re not working, you’re not earning. Not that you don’t like working. But a few more breaks would be nice.
If those do ring a bell, I might be able to help. I’ve certainly helped others overcome them (and dealt with them myself too.)
How can I help?
I typically help my clients with a mix of coaching and consulting either in person (if you live near London, UK), or by phone/Skype. Here’s a few example of the stuff that I help with?
- I can teach you a way to market your business that attracts your ideal clients to you when they need your help, rather than you having to chase after them to sell them your services.
- I can help you to stop getting in your own way when it comes to things like: charging what you’re worth, hiring outside help, and consistently taking actions which might put you in danger of making a profit.
- I can show you how to make marketing not only do-able, but enjoyable. Yes, I’m passionate about making marketing fun. I know that sounds weird. A bit like someone who enjoys rubbing vinegar into their eyes for a hobby. But it’s true.
- Once you’ve got more work than you can handle (which happens surprisingly quickly, when you have the above sorted out), I can show you how to do grown-up-business things like put in systems, hire people, and create products out of your expertise.
If you’d like my help, check out my “Rent My Brain” page. It’s a proper sales page, with buy buttons and everything. You’ll like it.
If you’d like to know more about me, read my blog, get my newsletter, or check out my testimonials page.
Or you could drop me a line, and help me fill my social contact quota for the month. (I love working from home, but my wife claims I “go weird” if I don’t talk to enough people).
More about me
At the tender age of 3, I disrupted my nursery school Christmas Play. Just when everyone was supposed to be singing Jingle Bells, I chose to sing “Jack and Jill Went Up The Hill”.
This pretty much set the path for the rest of my life. I gave up attempting to fit into the regular employment age 20, and set up on my own
My first venture was an IT support company, launched when I was supposed be studying for his degree. I got clients by randomly calling people out of the yellow pages until someone decided to give me a shot. I didn’t know then that cold calling was supposed be unpleasant and difficult. I just thought it was more fun than watching daytime TV.
This launched me into the world of IT, where I oscillated for the next ten years between triumph and near-disaster. This was partly due to the exuberance of youth, and partly due to having nobody to show me a better way.
Oh, and I also organised hugely successful music events (ok – raves), which very quickly became legendary in Bristol. 5 years after the last one finished, there are still people there who have heard of them. I’m proud of that.
Anyhow, one day someone asked me what my greatest achievement was in the last ten years. I realised the answer wasn’t IT (it was creating amazing events that people loved). This led me to realised that marketing far more my thing – specifically helping other people to create something so amazing out of their business that their clients flock to see them.
So here I am.
